Car Tune-Ups: What to Expect
Have you noticed that your car’s efficiency or handling isn’t what it once was? If so, we encourage you to visit our GMC service department to learn what our tune up cost is.
Are you unsure what a tune-up is or isn’t? Read on to learn the basics.
An Explanation of Tune-Up Costs and Benefits
Not long ago, a tune-up referred to our technicians checking and often replacing a long list of parts. Given recent advancements in technology, checking parts like the rotor and PCV valve has been phased out of a typical tune-up for modern vehicles.
For newer automobiles, a tune-up is now a faster, less comprehensive service that includes some things you can do on your own. For example, you can visit our GMC parts center, pick up the relevant fluids, and top off your car’s reservoirs to save some money on service.
When to Schedule the Service
To see when you’ll need a tune-up, consult your owner’s manual, or reach out to our team. If your automobile isn’t performing the way it should or your check engine or malfunction indicator lamp lights up, you may need a tune-up sooner than the recommended time listed in your owner’s manual.
Included Services
While today’s tune-ups aren’t as comprehensive as the service used to be, they’re still rather involved. Here are some of tune-up tasks:
- Inspecting spark plugs and ignition wires and cleaning or replacing them as needed
- Installing new engine air filter
- Examining a car’s belts and hoses to ensure they’re in good condition
- Topping off or changing key fluids, including the brake fluid, engine coolant, transmission fluid, and motor oil
- Checking and possibly replacing the oxygen sensor
- Replacing the cabin air filter
- Rotating the tires
